Winning pitcher Samantha DeGroat struck out nine and allowed just three hits to lead Middletown to a 3-2 first-round win over Madison, Ohio, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Amanda Castillo went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for Middletown (2-1) and Kelsey McDonough had a RBI single. Morgan Clarke had a double and two RBI to lift Middletown to a 6-2 win over Paramus (N.J.) Catholic. Chelsea DelVecchio and Kelsey McDonough each added an RBI single and Amanda Castillo fired a two-hitter and struck out six for Middletown (3-1). Middletown scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning and held off Kempsville, Va. 3-2 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Rachel Reed had a two-run double and Kelsey McDonough added an RBI single for Middletown (4-1). Winning pitcher Samantha DeGroat scattered five hits and struck out eight. Middletown went 3-0 in the tournament and won its bracket.
